The Grace Medical Mission was founded by Captain C. Oommen, M.B.B.S in December 1933 with an aim to attain steady and rapid progress of Homoeopathy , the true healing art, where the poor and the needy can attain medical relief and also with the aim of educational upliftment of the masses with special reference to the knowledge of preventable diseases and hygienic living.The Mission has completed 73 years of service in the education field.The course is prepared by the Board of Education headed by Capt. C. Oommen,Dr. Alexander and D.F Horn. The course comprises 223 lectures dealing with subjects of vast practical importance. Dr. Accamma Alexander is a medical expert who joined Grace Medical Mission in the year 1992, a pioneer Institute for teaching Homoeopathy through correspondence course. She took her Diploma in Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery in the year 1987 from Dr. Padiyar Memorial Homoeopathic Medical College, Chottanikkara .In an interview to Sreeni K.R, Medical Expert Dr. Accamma talks about the vision and prospects of Homeopathy in the near future.
When was Grace Medical Mission established and what is its motto? Grace Medical Mission was established in 1933। In earlier days, treatment of diseases both in Government and private Hospitals was mainly in the hands of Allopathic doctors who were minting money while the sick people, most of them being below poverty line, were being driven from bad to worse। Under this circumstance, Doctor Capt। C। Oommen decided to train a few people in the treatment of diseases with homoeopathic remedies. With this object in view, a few well-educated people were contacted and this was the beginning of Grace Medical Mission. The object of starting this course was to give relief from suffering to poor people and also to treat oneself and others and thus save many from the doctors bill, besides being able to do real humanitarian and social service.
What exactly are Homoeopathic and Biochemic Systems of Medicine? Homoeopathy is a system of treatment based on the principle “Let likes be treated by likes” or “Similia Similibus Curentur” . If we give a drug to a healthy person continuously for a few days, we produce in him certain symptoms .If we see similar symptoms in a sick person, we understand that this is the particular remedy for that person. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann found that by giving a drug cinchona to a person for a few days, he could produce in him symptoms similar to those of Malaria. So he treated Malaria with cinchona.Out of about two thousand Homoeopathic remedies, 12 were selected under the name Tissue Remedies ( Biochemic remedies) by Dr. Schussler. The principle was that the health of a person is based upon the use of 12 remedies and these 12 remedies are capable of curing most of the common diseases.
What is the role of Grace Medical Mission in popularsing Homoeopathy? We popularize Homoeopathy by inducing educated people to study Homoeopathy, mainly by advertising in the papers about us and our courses. We give necessary tuition in Homoeopathy & Bio chemistry and other subjects, taking only a small sum to meet the expenses of printing, advertisement charges etc.
What all courses do you conduct at your hospital? At present we are conducting only a postal course and subsequent practical training in our clinics. This enables the students to acquire sufficient knowledge and practical ability to handle ordinary cases successfully.
What is the duration of the course? The duration of the course is 1 to 2 years.
You are conducting correspondence courses. What are they and what is its relevance ? Students who are trained under us in the above manner are practising all over India and abroad. Our object in conducting this course of training is to equip the educated persons in India and abroad with the knowledge of Homoeopathy, so that they may treat themselves and others especially the children and save them from the drug effects of allopathic medicines which are the cause of most of the ills of adults.

Where do you place Homoeopathy in the 21st century? In the beginning of the 21st century and during the days that followed, Homoeopathy has been very successful in India,chiefly in Calcutta, Bombay and other metros.
More and more people are converting to Homoeopathy. What is the reason you find? Homoeopathy is harmless, comparatively less expensive and best adapted to the poor economic condition of India. Because of these facts, more and more people are converting to Homoeopathy.
